"(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" is a song co-written by soul singer OTIS REDDING and guitarist STEVE CROPPER. It was originally recorded by REDDING twice in 1967, including once just days before his death in a plane crash.
The song was released on Stax Records' Volt label in 1968, becoming the first posthumous single to top the charts in the US.
It reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.
ROD STEWART performs this song in 1985 at "Motown Returns To The Apollo".
BILL COSBY introduced STEWART by saying that STEWART first came to the Apollo Theater as an immigrant in 1968 and saw OTIS REDDING and SAM COOKE the second night he was in America. But STEWART could not have seen SAM COOKE that night because by 1968 SAM COOKE was already dead. COOKE was shot and killed in 1964.
ROD STEWART was backed in his performance by ALL-STAR BAND headed by world-famous guitarist NILE RODGERS.
